So, Monday I had a car accident. Ok, more like it had me. I was at a yield sign, yielding to oncoming traffic, and a Jeep Cherokee hit me. We were all in the car, and my daughter got to meet the EMT's personally. She has some back pain, likely bruising or maybe a muscle pull.
This is not on my insurance since he hit me.
The car is drivable, I just can't open the trunk, and it is open to the weather.
Just another day in paradise.
Well, I had my first bus breakdown today. very exciting. Especially the second time . The first time was interesting - most of the bus got off and almost got on a bus going the wrong way. But they got the bus started again, and got us over the bridge. It died just on the bridge, but we coasted into town. I had a half mile walk afterwards into work.
Today is hot and sticky, too.
Welcome to the weekend.

"Single Geoffrey, 31, took an agonising ten minutes to perform the horrific op using a pair of blunt wire cutters."
Generally life isnt quite this wierd, it's wierder.

What a strange, strange day. Wife and child sick, I wasn't so hot either. worked 11 hours since I took off yesterday to have a fever.
I just paid about twice what I paid 2 years ago for a cord of wood. This is sort of a good thing and sort of a bad thing - I mean I have a fireplace, but it isnt a heat source, it is a comfort and emergency cooking source. I see this as an expensive luxury that I really like. Plus it makes for a really nice gaming environment - a nice fire in the background brings out all kinds of primitive comfort to me. Plus, I guess its a way to cook without power. It definitely isn't a heat source, since it is an "unimproved" fireplace. I wouldn't be suprised that it sucks more heat than it gives.
But, I woudn't give it up if I had a reasonable choice about it.

NOLA rescue worker email #2
Via Ned Sublette, and attributed to a friend-of-a-friend rescue worker in New Orleans who wishes to remain anonymous:
I'm back in Baton Rouge, this time with all of my team. Sadly, we've had to pull out of New Orleans for now because things have gotten too dangerous.
Who would have thought that in a country like ours. not some third world place, mind you, that there would be massive amounts of people trying to inflict harm on the very people that are putting their own lives on hold to help other. It's unreal what we're seeing. The criminal looters (if that's even a strong enough word for them) have been shooting at the helicopters that are the only hope that the city has right now of saving more lives and thereby preventing many more deaths. I can tell you that there isn't a single member of the two teams I'm with that aren't ready to go back in, shooting and all, but the fear is from the higher-ups who can't risk losing the helicopters and the boats. I can't believe it Jon. people of roof tops and in attics will die tonight because sub-human thugs are shooting at the only people who can help anyone right now.
