Chaoselbows.com Life, like your elbow, is chaos

The old is now integrated with the new and chaoselbows.com contains the original, second generation and third generation website content all in one convenient package. Please log in to the website within a week, else your account will be cancelled. For those of you who are just visiting for the "first" new time, this site now contains a variety of options, from private groups, weblogs for all, a whole book hierarchy - Books are like web pages that relate to each other - and of course the forums. Ahh, the forums.
They are all there, in all their glory. But, you must be able to accept some changes. The old forums are not writable any more, and you must create or use new forums if you wish to use the forums again.
Many things are new and strange, but please try not to be afraid of new things. because it is all new and all good here at Chaos Elbows. And I thank you for your support.

So, here we have an exciting chaoselbows place. What kind of chaos should we get into now?

What I mean, is that I am looking to do something with this site. I have a number of ideas, but mostly, I am going to start thinking about my new site, bizlabz.com. I will likely discuss them over here first, but I have to work on the bizplanz first, if you know what I mean.

I left my contact lens fluid home or I would have been asleep hours ago.

The nearest 24 hour dispenser of contact lens fluid is over 20 miles away.

there is a red robin out that way that is just begging me to go eat there.

Chaoselbows now is crawled by Google and successfully has a site map running. I am still figuring out the system, but basically if private is private, public is public, and if it isn't marked it's in kind of a wierd state, where it is public to admin level users and the person who wrote it, but not to anyone else.

Please help out chaoselbows if you can by increasing the diversity of content here. For example, if you want to keep a weblog for personal reasons, please do so. Some of you such as Librarian, have whole websites that are yours for the asking. I am working on a "multi site" use of my web host, and everything appears working. http://www.eduxonline.org and http://www.livingpotential.org are two sites that I am running for friends, they will be moved to this new format this week, so things will be interesting there, too.

I have figured out how to use mod_rewrite to send the various sites to www.varioussites instead of just the site names. So, if you type in chaoselbows.com, you get www.chaoselbows.com with no arguments. This rewrite of the .htaccess file is very interesting. I have never used one before. in fact, there was one sent with the drupal configuration that I never saw because it was "invisible" within the file system, like all good configuration files are supposed to be. Finally I opened it in pico and saved it to a different file name.

So, in my grand scheme of things, this means that setting up a new web site is about a 7 step process.

1. decide on node name & get it
2. wait 24 hours
3. while waiting, configure database using test template
4. set up redirect within .htaccess file to point to www.site or not.
